224 years. Six generations. The same saddle stitch.

Freedman Harness has cut, stitched and finished leather in the same family since 1802, now run by David Freedman, the sixth generation, from workshops in Toronto and Midway, Kentucky.

The record

David Freedman is the sixth generation in a trade his family has practiced since 1802. He joined the business in 1982 and apprenticed nine years under his father Sam. In 1984 the workshop added belts and handbags, supplying some of the biggest names in retail fashion. That is the shape of the company today: harness and saddlery built the way it always was, sold alongside leather goods and apparel held to the same standard.

What the workshop makes

Harness and saddlery first, because that is the trade the family has kept since 1802. Bags, belts, gloves and ready-to-wear followed, held to the same standard.

Horse furnishing

Harness, saddlery, bridlework, halters and training equipment, plus the tools to keep them: care and maintenance, sold from the same shop since the beginning.
